Our mission was clear from the beginning: we want to make sustainable and poison-free pest control possible. While food standards and legislation quite rightly tolerate poisons less and less, our products offer entirely new solutions. These include powerful digital traps that kill animals quickly and painlessly, and non-toxic technology for prevention and monitoring.
But when we talk about sustainability, we don't just mean saving on rodenticides. As a company, we try to make our contribution to a sustainable and intact environment in all areas. That is why we were also awarded the title of carbon neutral company. Read on to find out what we are doing to achieve this and how we can help your company to become more sustainable.
2. Our IoT devices are on the run to scale globally and change our industry from routine visits, by humans, to 24-7 control by our smart and AI-powered cameras and traps. Through this we will reduce pest presence potentially to over 50% and reduce the amount of chemicals used by over 90%. This sounds crazy? Contact our consultants for proof and case studies by some of our clients, of which some belong to the largest groups of the world having done just that: removing 99% of the toxics, removing 90% of the human routine visits, applying digital traps and reducing rodent presence of rats and mice to over 50-60%. This is not a vision, it’s reality and we’re on the way to change it, globally.
3. In one year alone only in Italy we were able to save our partner company from using 848.520 poison bait blocks or 12,7 tons of rodenticides. Our experts estimate that worldwide our products reduce the usage of poisons by over 100 tons per year (!). We’re proud of that and this will leave an enduring footstep for our planet for future generations. Although we’re not as popular as Tesla and not as big, we don’t have a Planet B and we will continue to work to make our Planet healthier by better Pest Control products by Futura Germany.
4. Our production of IoT devices, but also of Hardware products for professionals is exclusively happening in Germany, of which we’re proud because of the CO2 reduction, but also because quality matters to us. Further the granulates and plastic compounds we use are recycled wherever we can and also our products can be recycled again for an even smaller footprint on this planet.
5. What a lot of people don’t know: all of our products can be refurbished by either yourself or by Futura. For instance: our IoT sensors get updates and will be re-sold as refurbished stock “just as new” to clients who then use our products for another 10 yrs+. We don’t believe in the “quick buck” or capitalism, we believe in lasting quality, refurbishment and re-usability.
6. Biodegradable. We use biodegradable raw materials so some of our products that are used in large quantities and partially in nature can degrade within a few years by bacteria that consume them and make them disappear to not leave a mark in nature, a river or even the ocean. With our popular Nara® brand we’re launching the first biodegradable products in Pest Control and we envision that in future most of our products will be 100% bio-deg.
We do our best to minimize the emissions generated by our work. You can find out how we do this further down this page. However, in order to reduce our CO2 footprint even further, we invest in a climate protection project run by the ClimatePartner organization, for which we have been awarded the status of a carbon neutral company.
Carbon offset projects compensate for greenhouse gas emissions and make an important contribution to fighting global warming. They also promote sustainable development in the countries where the projects take place, including improving clean drinking water supplies, expanding local infrastructures, creating sustainable jobs, and protecting biodiversity.
The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a globally acknowledged system for measuring these positive effects. The 17 goals cover issues such as combating poverty and hunger, promoting equal education, and distributing clean and affordable energy throughout the world.
Each carbon offset project in the ClimatePartner portfolio contributes to several of these goals. To make these effects visible, ClimatePartner highlights the contribution of each individual project to the SDGs. This enables you to see which goals the projects support beyond climate protection. The additional contribution is so considerable with some projects that they are actually development projects first and foremost with a secondary climate action effect, and not the other way around.
The ClimateMap presents a selection of our global carbon offset projects with background information, images and videos. You can filter them by region, technology, SDGs and certification standards.
1. Remote Work – most of our 40+ staff work remotely from various locations in Germany (mostly) and through this alone and the daily route to work and back home we save a lot of CO2. To be exact we save over 5.000.000 Kilometers annualy that our staff doesn’t need to drive and spend valuable hours/days/ even weeks in the car, but productively and happy working remotely in our digital-environment.
2. Solar Panels: Actually over 100% of the power we use comes from our solar panels and we even give back the left-over energy to energy companies to be used in your home as well.
3. Electric vehicles: we believe in the electrification of cars and built 8 charging points in our HQ in Paderborn, Germany for our staff and clients to charge-up. Also we have 10+ PHEV and EVs in our car park and new cars we acquire will solely be electric.
4. Bee stock: we have life bee stocks in our garden, cultivate the surrounding area with the population and even share our own honey with friends and clients.
5. Insect-friendly-environment: in 2018 we redesigned our surrounding area of our Paderborn HQ from “perfectly cut grass” to “wild flower meadows” so insects and other animals can cultivate and have a natural and fun life around our modern HQ. This makes us proud seeing these small fellow – especially in summer – flying around and buzzing.
6. Raptor Perches: we’ve installed many raptor perches for owls, buzzards and hawks to naturally rest and surveil the rodents we might have around our HQ. This natural form of pest control is very common in Germany and we’re happy to support these beautiful animals, of which many had potentially died when regular pest-chemicals and biocides would’ve come to use against rats or mice. We’re doing it different and are proud of it.
7. Vegan food: our vegan chef Juliana cooks for all of our team every day. She buys quality bio-certified food daily and cooks cuisine, inspired by Yotam Ottolenghi every day so we can offer the best possible energy source and most tasteful food to our estimated team. Through the lack of meat we also reduce CO2 as meat production is one of the key drivers of CO2 output in our planet.
Futura Refurbished extends the life of eligible products by taking like-new, mildly used products and refurbishing them by hand, updating their software or exchanging hardware parts and offering them to you at best prices.
Step 1:
Our team of experts inspects the products and approves of them, otherwise they cannot be re-used for a second life or extended life.
Step 2:
Our products are given a condition grade by the team – like new, gently used or cosmetically flawed.
Step 3:
Each product is carefully cleaned and sanitized. The products will also potentially receive new hardware parts if necessary like a new metal case, a new antenna or plug and of course an update to our newest software.
Step 4:
Refurbished goods are sent back to the client that asked for the update or refurbishment or to selected regions that would normally not be able to afford IoT pest control goods made from quality products and engineers in Germany.
Lets say, you are an international food business, listed at the stock exchange.
Due to the EU Taxonomie regulation, large investment funds and banks need to adapt their investments in 2022 and forward. You can’t just invest, based on a good story or PE ratio. ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) is what will be obligatory investment thesis for you as well. Looking at pest control and the annual reports of the large companies of the world that are listed at stock exchanges, we see that they mainly try to reduce e.g. CO2 by reducing visits or optimizing their routing for the highly human-powered routine service models. Especially CEO of Anticimex was quoted “IoT Pest control is the next best thing to sliced bread” and he is right. Why?
Not just because 24-7 IoT helps you get better in pest control, no because through IoT you can reduce your scaled routine visits with 10,000+ strong staff to over 90% through IoT sensors that last 10 yrs+ and costs less than 100€.
Thanks to Futura’s digital IoT products as well as analogue solutions you have a direct and scalable improvement of ESG:
Finally it’s gotten law to invest in sustainable businesses. Futuras products help international pest control organizations to focus on ESG and secure ESG-approved investments throughout the next decades, but also Food, Supermarket and Pharma organizations secure their ESG optimization through application of sustainable and IoT pest control products on a global scale.
Large, responsible organizations can’t afford to have their subcontractors deploy poisons routinely and maintain a high CO2 output through routine visits, which have proven to be unnecessary in over 90% of the cases (ask our consultants for proof and case studies with leading players).
The next decade, renowned food standards, pest control biocide law, but also EU Taxonomy regulation will force companies to broadly install digital IoT solutions to improve their ESG. Otherwise the big investments into stock listed companies or the value generation for privately or PE held companies will stagnate or even stop if they didn’t change in the course of, well, the next 5-10 yrs. It’s a race to who will be the most digital and the most environmentally-friendly business leader first as most “have just begun” or, as most of the world’s largest organizations that deliver or subcontract pest control, didn’t even start yet at all.
It’s actually a very positive change to more sustainability and greater tech combined hand in hand, as it does not include higher costs overall and it does significantly better control pests. “It’s a no brainer” to quote some of the greatest minds in the Pest Control boards. It’s a win-win although it’s a hard deployment case from an analogue routine service company to a green IoT or SAAS business.
