Our customers - The basis of our work

TERMINIX UK LTD

Daniel Ashton is the commercial director of Terminix UK Ltd (then Mitie). He has been working with Futura since 2013. Daniel talked about Terminix and eMitter’s customer base, as well as how the digital and non-toxic pest control market in the UK has evolved over the years and future predictions.

To start, Daniel talks about the changes the company has gone through since it was acquired by Terminix, especially with regards to their customers. The customer base has shifted to mainly national and NHS customers since the company split.

On the positive side, even during the corona pandemic, most of their customers continued to do their work or even had more orders.

Van Eck BV’s customers are farms, poultry farms, pig farms, greenhouses and the food industry.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT EMITTERS?

“We heard about eMitter in 2013/2014 and were very curious. Terminix sold quite a few eMitter products to our customers in London, mainly banks, legal, accounting and media companies.

Terminix is now looking to roll out this technology to national customers across the UK. For example, one of our customers is one of the major food retailers. We are currently in discussions about how eMitter can be used. 7 years ago, these customers were not yet convinced of the benefits of this technology. However, it is gratifying to see that these things have changed.”

“In addition, we also plan to target the food manufacturing industry. We believe that conversations around remote trapping/eMitter are a good way to convince them.

A digital trap costs more than a regular trap, of course, but understanding how these traps can be used and the benefits they bring changes the way customers see them. In addition, not all traps/bait boxes need to be replaced, as eMitter can be used selectively to monitor specific locations.

For customers, with a large number of sites, a system that does not require controllers and routers would be much more efficient (e.g., eMitter Outdoor Direct).”

IS THE DEVELOPMENT IN GB SIMILAR TO THAT IN DE?

Did you know that more and more people want to go digital and non-toxic?

“Yes, the market here in the UK has definitely expanded. However, the development in Germany is (probably) stronger, as the legislation has different rules. We believe this is an important reason why eMitter is so well received in Germany.

The difference from back then is simply that people today know about digital traps. Our customers are familiar with digital pest monitoring, so they’re very interested.”

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE?

Why focus on digital and toxin-free pest control?

“Terminix is focusing its business on non-toxic pest control because although the EU Biocides Directive has pushed the whole industry in this direction, one day we would like to see all UK pest control companies offering a mainly non-toxic, high quality pest control service.

Legislation has helped convince customers that this is the type of service they need. Many share our passion for reducing the impact we have on the environment. All of our technicians and managers want to provide an environmentally friendly service, and we’ll see how digital pest control can help with that.”

WHAT CAN WE AT FUTURA DO FOR YOU?

What are your wishes?

“We’re at a point now where there are many opportunities to help our customers take their pest control digital. We want to tailor the offering and price to have the ability to sell thousands of eMitter traps to large customers.”

WHAT ARE YOUR WISHES WITH REGARD TO EMITTERS?

“Terminix hopes that Futura products, especially eMitter, will help us improve our service to national customers. We want to make their contracts more profitable and open the door to foreign customers and food manufacturers.”
