The focus of the company was first on disinfection and a few years later they entered the pest control business. Why? Because they believe that pests need to be controlled. If pests are not controlled, they can be the trigger for a new infection. Chemical products are not the solution for Peter and his colleagues. That is why they rely on the Gorilla Traps.
Van Eck BV’s customers are agriculture business poultry farms, swine farms, greenhouses and food industry.
Before the use of gorilla traps, they used rodenticides in bait boxes. When they started offering gorilla traps to their customers, they were initially skeptical because they thought that traps could only kill one mouse/rat at a time instead of several at once like poison. But Peter has a very clear opinion about this: “The only rodent you always need to kill is the first one..If I have already plenty of rodents, it is already too late. Rodenticides are not able to eliminate the “first rodent”. You have to wait until 3-5 days. But I don’t want a rodent to walk around on a farm because that increases to the risk of an infection.”
In the future we would like to use more and more traps. The next step to improve the welfare is to kill rodents but with using less toxic.
Important: This is the way how Van Eck BV work in the Netherlands, because there you don't have to control traps daily like in Germany.
“When we use a new product, we study it. There are a lot of products in the market that catch rodents but doesn’t kill them and the Gorilla Trap is one of the better products in the market.”
