Snap traps are still essential for effective pest control. Especially in areas where live trapping makes little or no sense. The various Animal Welfare Acts require that the use of snap traps fulfil important criteria. An important aspect is the avoidance of animal suffering.
If a snap trap is triggered prematurely by the so-called "lock", it cannot be guaranteed that the mouse or rat is already completely on the pressure plate. Particularly with rat traps, it happens time and time again that the rodent is prevented from escaping only by an individual limb caught in the trap. So, the animal suffers unnecessarily.
New types of traps, which are powerful, effective, target-oriented and, for rats, also adjustable in sensitivity, were needed. The development of the Gorilla traps was therefore necessary and has now proved to be unrivalled.
The Gorilla Traps mousetrap is certified according to §18 of the German Animal Protection Act in combination with the Snapbox and is therefore the only snap trap on the market.
The rat trap can be adjusted in sensitivity, so fulfilling the need of pest controllers to prevent unnecessary releases.

The pressure plate also has passive sensor technology, which uses an eMitter system to ensure that you can read the exact status of the trap and also detect when rodents are running over an unsprung trap.

FAQ about Gorilla Traps
Why did you make another trap?
We always said the last thing we would do is another trap, but as we’ve invented digital monitoring with eMitter, we’ve felt we can’t produce a 50/100€ quality sensor that lasts for 10 yrs+ and use a trap by other manufacturers that just never fulfilled our standards. We couldn’t afford using a high quality digital product and selling it with a cheap trap. In the end the trap needed to be German Engineered as well:

- long lasting
- the most humane trap ever made
- ready to use with our Nara and eMitter line-up
So, we created Gorilla Traps and are extremely happy with them, as are our clients in over 50 countries in the world who use millions of them.
What does the §18 IfSG mean?
It means the traps have been tested by the german environmental government agency (Umweltbundesamt / UBA), have succeeded the high expectations and achieved their approval. Now, Gorilla Traps are listed in the IfSG list and therefore have proven they fulfill highest standards and reduce unnecessary suffering for animals to the lowest possible levels.
Controlling a rodent infestation e.g. in a bakery is very important, but professionals as well as end-consumers are left with an offering of 10-30 different, mostly cheaply made, traps.
§18 tells you, you have a quality product that is tested according to highest quality standards.

What makes the Gorilla Traps better?
Thanks to highest skilled german engineers we’ve been able to set a few records and introduce standards we are happy to explain:
- glass fiber supported extra strong and heavy plastics for a long-lasting experience
- PVC coated stainless steel for zero-reflections which helps catching rodents
- extra strong PVC coated stainless springs for super human and balanced snap-action
- spring support for the treadle plate so no false-activations can happen through vibrations or kicks, only rodents will activate the traps

- if you want to use it as a multi-catch trap – which many professionals do – set it on 1) and it’ll activate for mice as well
- flexibility: you can remove the treadle-stabilizer-spring and reduce the mouse and rat traps treadle weight to 3-5g maximum for extra efficient catch-success – try it out and you’ll be surprised of the versatile usability

How many did you sell yet?
We really can’t say, but obviously millions worldwide and we’re so proud that with every single trap we are making sure professionals and end-consumers don’t use poison or low-quality products they throw away after a year. Our traps should last a lifetime if used correctly and taken care of.
Are plastic traps environmentally friendly?
Our goal is to make products you can use forever. Quality. Nothing is more environmentally friendly as a product you use for 20+ years. Our traps can be cleaned, set apart and put back together for another 10 yrs of use. We’ve got traps that alone caught over 100 mice or rats, as our clients report.
Our plastics are partially recycled already and can be recycled again by shredding them and re-using them as granulat again. We’re extremely proud that for any trap you install a device that – in the best case – lasts 10+ years and during these 10+ years no biocide / poison is used which causes 100x more ecological damage than anything else. We’re making this earth more green and pest control more modern, that’s our approach.
How do you perform quality control?
We are certified with ISO and especially in Gorilla Traps manufacturing we make sure that any and every trap is hand-tested and hand-finished. All of our traps are activated, set and left for a few hours. Then they’re activated sensitively to see whether they function properly, all by hand.
This process might make them 5% more expensive than any cheaper traps that don’t have all our quality-features, but it makes them so much better and reliable for ages.
Why should I buy a Gorilla Trap?
Because you won’t have to buy new traps in 2-10 years when the law changes. New standards and laws control pest control. When now, all of a sudden – which is to be expected – law will only approve of approved humane traps, then some companies will have to exchange all their stock, all their traps that are installed… Huge costs and time involved.
