Contents

  • Special features of vertebrates: sensory and neurological systems and performance of vertebrates and invertebrates.

  • Pain in animals: Participants will be taught what pain is, how it arises and how it is processed by the central nervous system. The consequences for humane killing will also be discussed.

  • Biology and behavior of selected pests: The biology and behavior of rats, mice, pigeons, voles and moles are presented here.

  • Methods of killing animals: Presentation of various killing methods. Of particular importance here is the use of anticoagulants as the most commonly used method for killing vertebrates.

  • Relevant laws: The participant should receive a rough overview of other relevant laws. Most of the laws have already been covered in detail in the pest control training. Implementation of risk minimization measures.

Prerequisites

  • Good knowledge of the German language (at least language level B2), graduation from a general education school, understanding of foreign words.

  • For an online course technical aids in the form of a headset and a webcam are required, and an identity card must also be available for identification purposes.

Special features

  • Training for employees who want to kill vertebrates professionally or commercially (including the legal risk minimization measures).

  • Acquisition of the certificate of competence for the necessary knowledge and skills for the control of vertebrates according to § 4 para. 1 of the Animal Welfare Act are taught in the course.

  • IMPORTANT: The certificate of competence is recognized by the competent veterinary office. Each veterinary office decides independently whether knowledge and skills are sufficient for the control of vertebrates in accordance with §4. Detailed information on course content will be provided to the authority on request.
